Research Log #1

Beja, Mark. "Occupy protesters plan national rallies." Newsday(New York) February 29, 2012: pgA33. Web.

In the article "Occupy protesters plan national rallies" by Mark Beja, the author talks about how many groups around the country from Oakland, CA, to Las Vegas, NV, to Long Island, NY; will be coming out will be meeting to protest for the Occupy Wall Street movement. Some of the groups are receiving large donations in support of their campaign including Ben & Jerry two co-founders who will be donating  $1 million to the Movement Resources Group. The demonstrations are held to show support for the Occupy Wall Street movement and can be seen in just about every state across the nation.

My reaction to this was that I was surprised in the amount of work and people that are involved in this movement. This isn't just a small group of protesters that are rallying for something. Instead this is a nation wide protest that involves thousands of people from every state. What I also noticed is that this Movement is so big and captivating to people everywhere that I believe it is really starting to have an effect on the economy and the way major corporations are looking at things. They now have to take into consideration the effects this Occupy Wall Street movements is having on their businesses as well as all of the corporations as a whole.

The reason I chose this source was because I felt like it was a good opener to the research that I will be looking at. It's a good place to start from and it shows me the mass population of the movement and how widespread it is. From this piece I can now start to look at what other issues go into this movement and what else the movement is trying to achieve. I'm interested to know the very start of this movement; where it came from and what group of people were the originators of this movement. Or maybe this movement has been going on for a long time and people are now just starting to get the message across. Either way I would like to see where this movement originated from and what impact the movement has had on the economy so far. Also, I'm interested in what this movement will bring in the long run and if this movement can actually make a big impact since the size of the movement has grown so much.
